Taranaki Community Helicopter

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

I was out shopping in Kilbirnie the other day and took the opportunity to pop by the airport on a fairly grey and rainy day.  I was rewarded with the arrival and departure of the Taranaki Community (Rescue) Helicopter.

After catching it on arrival with my long zoom, I decided to head down to the viewing area adjacent to the Airwork hangar and, with short lens mounted, was treated to some great angles when it departed.

Huge props to the crew member who came over for a chat and talked about their work and their machine.  I also suspect the post-lift-off turn was made nose-on to us for our benefit!

The Agusta A119 is resplendent in its Taranaki colours (which also happen to be Wellington colours!)

Catching up

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

I have photos from a few sessions that pre-date my last posting, so I am doing a bit of a catch up with those.  Herewith, three of nine shots taken in mid-December.

This Nelson-based Grumman Cougar – with a very appropriate registration – overflew RWY16 as if on missed approach, but never returned.

N851GG is just one of many Gulfstream bizjets flying through Wellington lately.

And finally, perhaps one of the best looking GA aircraft around, a Cirrus SR22.

The rest of the photos in the usual place.

Three of a kind and two wild cards

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Wow!  Have I really not posted here in over 2 months!?  I must have been busy.  Doing something.

Anyway, here are some recent shots from NZWN.  There are 15 new shots in the Aviation set (or in the photostream).

I was rather pleased to capture, in a single visit, all three SoundsAir Cessna Caravans, including the freshly painted ZK-TZR.

And for the two wild cards, we have one (of many, recently,) Gulfstream…

…and an unusual-for-Wellington Qantas 737-800.
