IMGP7413

For viewers’ convenience, I have put all of my aviation photos into a Flickr set.  This means you can avoid the lions, steam trains and the odd tree if you’re only into the aircraft.

Look for the “Aviation” set on my photostream page (marked with the above photo) or go direct.

Angles

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

On a recent trip out to the airport, I spent a bit of time in locations I don’t usually go to.  The result is some different angles on some of the regular NZWN traffic.

First up is Cessna Citation Mustang ZK-MUS about to touch down on RWY 16.

Air New Zealand 737-300 ZK-NGM is pushed back from gate 10.

And a couple of angles on Air Nelson Dash 8 Q300 ZK-NEZ, parked in gate 19, as seen from the terminal.

This one is not so much an unusual angle as an interesting colour scheme.  From what I know Cessna Grand Caravan ZK-TZR will only remain in this scheme for a short time before getting the standard Sounds Air orange and white treatment.  If you’d like to see some great air-to-air shots of this aircraft, head on over to the Classic Aircraft Photography blog

Up, up and away!

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

I think I’ve said it before on the blog, but I just love the ‘action’ feel of photographs like the two below with the undercarriage partially retracted.  It is also an interesting study in that ATR-72s, such as ZK-MCJ below, completely stow the nosewheel prior to the main gear…

_IGP9583

…whereas Convair 580 ZK-CIB has almost fully stowed the main gear before the nosewheel starts moving!

This Lowe Corporation air ambulance Cessna 421C was way too quick at tucking his gear up.

As for Alpine Helicopters’ ZK-INM – nothing retracts.  I do wonder whether MD 500E models have a minimum recommended speed outside of hover as they always seem to be thoroughly hurtled through the air. This pilot did pause in a brief hover, shortly prior to this photo, so I had time to get myself in position for this great shot.  At least, that’s how I like to think of it.

There are another 16 new photos in the photostream too.

Spring in the air at Wellington

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Oops!  These photos were taken before those at Paraparaumu in the previous post.  Never mind. Here’s a selection of the pedestrian (regular, run of the mill) traffic at NZWN recently.  More in the photostream.

This Hughes 369E (why do I always call these Hughes 500s?) operated by Masterton company Amalgamated Helicopters of New Zealand.

_IGP9352

There were a selection of Air New Zealand branded aircraft including Airbus A320s.

_IGP9389

And Air Nelson Dash 8 Q300s.

_IGP9392

Eagle Air Beech 1900Ds – in this case executing a missed approach to RWY16.

_IGP9397

And the usual general aviation traffic, in this case from the Wellington Aero Club.  Hmmmm.  Who is that at the controls of I know someone who took this Piper PA-28 Archer for a spin earlier in the day.

A little bit of NZPP

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

I had a bit of time to spare in the Kapiti area on Thursday, so popped down to the airfield to see what was about. First up, a pristine pair of Pipers parked at Paraparaumu!

A Piper PA-31 Navajo and a PA-34 Seneca, both operated by Air2There.

A HELiPRO Robinson R-22

And finally a rather nice looking Cessna 182T (ZK-TOT) of the Kapiti Districts Aero Club.
