Another selection from NZWN

Not quite equalling the excitement of the “helicopter at home” experience in the previous post, but here are a few pics from the last couple of weeks, up to today.

First up, Air Nelson‘s latest Q300 to join the fleet, ZK-NFA, seen at Wellington a few days after entering service. Currently this is the only Air Nelson Q300 not registered as ZK-NE<something>.

Next up a shot of Vincent Aviation‘s Beech 1900C, ZK-VAE, moments from touchdown.

OK, for this one I have done some checking!  Metroliner ZK-POE has been through the same owners, and at the same times, as ZK-POF which was discussed earlier, so it is also likely to have operated at some time in Origin Pacific colours.  However, this time I could find no photographic evidence.  The oldest photo I came across was in April 2004 at which time it was wearing the same scheme as shown here.  It does, however, show up (along with ‘POF) as having been operated (in some fashion) by “Ansett New Zealand Ltd.

Next up, in Air National markings, is Jetstream 32 ZK-ECR which on this particular day (today) was doing training.

And carrying on the theme of “did it fly with Origin Pacific?” is Jetstream 32 ZK-ECP.  This aircraft shows as having been registered to Air National since its arrival with the exception of 10 months under Tasman Pacific Regional Airlines.  Photos of it as recently as February 2007 show an all-white scheme as for ‘ECR above, and yet Origin Pacific ceased operations 6 months prior.  Perhaps they’ve all been using the same paint shop – the one who got a really good deal on the dark blue.

Low flying helicopter!!

I have a week off work and had spent a few hours out at NZWN today.  Nothing incredibly interesting showed up (more on that later) – until I got home!

Suspicions were aroused as I drove up the street and noticed the Helipro vehicle parked across the street.  There had been a crane there earlier this morning which appeared to be related to a spa pool delivery.

This first pic is pretty much the sort I’d expected to get when I first learned of this:

However, a thoughtful safety chap not only directed me to a safe spot but a good vantage point and explained to me how the job would be done. Hence this shot. That’s my driveway on the left!

That’s one way to clear away the autumn leaves!!

It’s never easy…

I just fixed the header on the blog which was picture-less and link-less for a while after a recent software upgrade.  In the process I was browsing the posts (just because) and was re-reading comments on them.

I came across Aaron‘s comment regarding ZK-POF never having been in Origin Pacific service.  Not one to believe someone had gone to the hard work of painting the aircraft in a relatively complex scheme, especially given others in the Airwork fleet are plain white, I did some searching.

First, Aaron is correct in terms of ownership of ‘POF.  The CAA web site shows ‘POF coming onto the register in 1999 with Airpost and then changing to Airwork in 1999 (and, oddly, again in 2003).

However, nothing is as simple as it appears.  As evidenced on Airliners.net, ‘POF did indeed serve with Origin Pacific – at the very least on January 3rd, 2000.  Looking a bit futher, Wikipedia suggests that Origin Pacific “subleased from other carriers to operate adhoc Origin Charters and RPT operations” including a Metroliner.  (RPT = Regular Passenger Transport.)

Aaron, it’s not that I doubted you – just that I have seen Airwork’s propensity for the downright boring when it comes to colouring their aircraft.  It just seemed out of character for them to have this – although it is still significantly different in that the underbelly of the aircraft, at least, must have been repainted anyway.

Bizjet, miljet and more

Another small batch of recent photos.  This time all updates featured in this post.

Firstly a rather nice colour scheme adorns this Piper PA-34 Seneca of Air Wanganui, seen at Paraparaumu.

Next up a Falcon 20 “Guardian” of the French Navy, visiting Wellington.

IMGP8341

Two more shots of Air Chathams’ Convair 580 ZK-CIB.  There’s something inherently photogenic about this aircraft.

And finally, a nice shot of one of the Cessna Citation Mustangs that seems to now be based at Wellington.
